Description
Written about 20 years after the event by a participant this is a good account of what might have been the last British battleship victory. An Italian force with better armed and faster ships is intruding south of Crete to attack Allied convoys supporting the Army in Greece. A British squadron is heading up to trap it. Both sides misread aircraft spotting and a British cruiser force finds itself in the midst of the Italians. What follows is a series of retreats, feints, turns, attacks and sudden disasters as the Italians encounter three British battleships and an aircraft carrier. The elements of cat-and-mouse are clearly explained as both sides find themselves in the advantage and then disadvantage.
