Description
“Asterix and Cleopatra” is the title of the sixth comic book in the popular French comic series called “Asterix,” created by writer René Goscinny and illustrator Albert Uderzo. The comic was first published in 1965. It was later adapted into an animated film in 1968 with the same title.
In the story, Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt, is frustrated by the claims of Julius Caesar that the Egyptian people are inferior to the Romans in everything, including art. Determined to prove Caesar wrong, Cleopatra challenges him to build a grand palace for her within three months. She sends her architect, Numerobis (also known as Edifis), to Gaul (ancient France) to seek the help of Asterix and Obelix, the two Gaulish warriors with superhuman strength. Cleopatra hopes that Asterix and Obelix, along with their druid friend Getafix, will aid Numerobis in completing the palace on time.
Asterix and Obelix agree to help Numerobis, and they travel to Egypt, where they face various challenges and encounters with Roman soldiers. They also find themselves caught up in political intrigue and encounters with Egyptian gods. Despite the obstacles, Asterix and Obelix manage to help Numerobis complete the palace, impressing Cleopatra and proving Caesar wrong.
Like other Asterix adventures, “Asterix and Cleopatra” is known for its humor, witty dialogue, and satirical take on history. The comic book and its animated adaptation are beloved by fans worldwide and are considered among the best entries in the Asterix series.
