Description
“The Prisoner of Zenda” is a classic adventure novel written by Anthony Hope, the pen name of Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins. The novel was first published in 1894 and has since become one of the most famous examples of the “Ruritanian romance” genre, a subgenre of adventure fiction set in fictional European countries.
The story is set in the fictional kingdom of Ruritania and follows the adventures of Rudolf Rassendyll, an Englishman who bears a striking resemblance to the soon-to-be-crowned King Rudolf V of Ruritania. When the king is drugged on the eve of his coronation, Rudolf Rassendyll is called upon to stand in for him to avoid a political crisis.
