Description
This is a wonderful first person account of the pilgrimage of a chinese buddhist monk from the then capitol(Xian)of China to India and beyond in search of authentic buddhist teachings and texts. The journey needed many years and the book includes both interesting anecdotes of the travels of Hiuen-Tsiang, as well as historical facts about the Buddha and the many places visited.
In particular the description of Hiuen-Tsiang’s stay at Nalanda University in India is quite revealing. His studies, teachers and also the lay-out at Nalanda are all described in detail.
This book is a wonderful addition to any buddhist’s library, and a unique travel guide for anyone following this pilgrim’s trail.
