The work of the Armenian poet, State Prize winner Gevorg Emin (b. 1919), is widely known to readers in the Soviet Union and abroad – chiefly through translations in the magazine “Soviet Literature” and Progress Publications. The present edition is the first volume of Emin’s poetry translated into English, a choice of his best work produced during a quarter of a century. In these “Songs of Armenia”, his ancient yet young native land, the author offers a poetic account of “his time and himself”, the thoughts and feelings of a living contemporary.
