Description
Because Palestine has throughout recorded history lain at a point between great and ambitious empires, it has often been conquered, but its people have remained of the same stock as its founders. There is no evidence of any exile or annihilation of the Canaanites, and the rise of Islam brought only people of the same stock to Palestine.
The culture of Jerusalem remained continuous and unbroken. The author believes that the present occupation of the city, by a conquering power, and the changes in the city’s appearance made by foreign and unsightly building will all be as transient as previous occupations, and that the Arab heritage of Jerusalem will prove indestructible.
