Description
This study follows F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life and career from boyhood to his death. Though emphasis is placed upon the works rather than upon the man, the important details of his life are included whenever they illuminate his writing. The chapters are not separate essays on individual works but parts of a continuing narrative designed to bring out the defining characteristics of his work. Since Fitzgerald’s short stories have received less attention than his novels, more discussion of the short stories is to be found here than in other critical studies of Fitzgerald’s fiction.
