Description

“Asterix in Switzerland” is a comic book in the “Asterix” series, written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo. It was first published in 1970.

The story takes place in Switzerland, where the Romans have set up a bank to store their ill-gotten gains. Caesar sends his tax collector, Claudius Incorruptus, to make sure the bank is secure. Meanwhile, Asterix and Obelix are sent to Switzerland by their chief, Vitalstatistix, to bring back some of Switzerland’s famous cheese.

Once in Switzerland, Asterix and Obelix befriend a local tribe, the Helvetii, who are being oppressed by the Romans. They team up with the Helvetii to steal the Romans’ money from the bank and use it to buy back the Helvetii’s freedom.

As with all “Asterix” stories, the humor is rooted in the clash of cultures between the Romans and the Gauls, and the clever ways in which Asterix and his friends outsmart their adversaries. “Asterix in Switzerland” is also notable for its depiction of Swiss culture, including the country’s famous fondue and cuckoo clocks.
