Description

Asterix and the Griffin is the 39th book in the Asterix series, and the fifth to be written by Jean-Yves Ferri and illustrated by Didier Conrad. It was released worldwide in more than 20 languages on 21 October 2021, with an initial print run of over 5 million copies. It is the first Asterix book to be released since the death of the series’ co-creator Albert Uderzo.

The story begins when the geographer Cartographus informs Julius Caesar of the reported existence of the griffin, a beast that is half-eagle and half-lion with horse’s ears, located in Sarmatian territory in the remote eastern lands of Barbaricum. Caesar instructs Cartographus to capture the griffin and bring it back to Rome, where it will be used in the Colosseum.

Cartographus sets out on his mission, but he is soon captured by the Sarmatians. Asterix, Obelix, and Getafix are called in to help, and they travel to Barbaricum to rescue Cartographus and prevent the griffin from being captured by the Romans.

Along the way, Asterix and Obelix must face many challenges, including a group of Roman soldiers, a tribe of hostile Sarmatians, and a variety of wild animals. They also learn more about the griffin, and they discover that it is a sacred animal to the Sarmatians.

In the end, Asterix and Obelix are able to rescue Cartographus and prevent the griffin from being captured. They also help to bring peace between the Sarmatians and the Romans.
