Description
“Asterix and Cleopatra” is the sixth volume in the Asterix comic book series created by writer René Goscinny and illustrator Albert Uderzo. It was first published in 1965.
In this story, Queen Cleopatra of Egypt challenges Julius Caesar to a wager: she bets him that she can build a grand palace for him in Alexandria in just three months. Caesar accepts the bet, and Cleopatra enlists the help of Asterix and Obelix to make it happen.
The Gaulish duo travels to Egypt and, with the help of their fellow villagers, they use their strength, ingenuity, and magic potion to build the palace. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including an Egyptian architect, a Roman spy, and the crocodiles of the Nile.
As with all Asterix books, “Asterix and Cleopatra” is full of humor, adventure, and clever wordplay. It pokes fun at the rivalry between the Egyptians and the Romans, while celebrating the resilience and resourcefulness of the Gaulish people. The book is also notable for its depiction of ancient Egyptian culture and architecture, which was meticulously researched by Uderzo.
