Description
Afghanistan – From Tragedy to Triumph is the first complete account of the Saur (April) revolution. It is an authentic narration of the events in that ancient land that has survived great tragedies. Time and civilization seemed suspended there oftentimes at the crossroads of history. That mountainous land has been the land gate to India and is inexorably linked with us as well as the people of Central Asia and West Asia. Commonness of the yore today intermingled with the present geopolitics.
The book sets out the social, economic and political background of Afghanistan to prove that the Saur revolution did not come by fluke; it had its roots in the churning of the Afghan society itself. It discusses the contours of the revolutionary government and the People’s Democratic Party. It details the interaction of personalities and argues that the pitfalls of Saur revolution were not altogether unexpected. It establishes that neither did Karmal come on the back of a Soviet tank nor was there a sudden Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan.
