Description
100 Lyrics is a book of 100 songs written by Gulzar, one of the most celebrated lyricists in Hindi cinema. The book was published in 2007 by HarperCollins India.
The songs in the book are arranged chronologically, starting with Gulzar’s first film song, “Mora gora ang lal lal” from the 1960 film Chaudhvin Ka Chand, and ending with “Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi Shikwa Nahin” from the 2006 film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
Each song is accompanied by a brief introduction by Gulzar, in which he talks about the inspiration for the song, the challenges he faced in writing it, and the memories it evokes for him.
The book also includes a foreword by Amitabh Bachchan, who is a longtime fan of Gulzar’s work. Bachchan writes that Gulzar is “a poet who has written songs for the screen, but his songs are more than just film songs. They are poems that capture the essence of life.”
100 Lyrics is a beautiful and inspiring collection of songs that will appeal to fans of Gulzar’s work, as well as anyone who loves good poetry. It is a book that can be enjoyed over and over again, as each song reveals new layers of meaning with each reading.
