Description

The updated edition of the book that has changed millions of lives with its insights into the growth mindset.

After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.

In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love—to transform their lives and your own.

Most concepts hover around the fixed and growth mindset theories. Was a little repetitive though. Some parts of the book are good though especially one on the children

  2. Priyanshu Roy (Verified Purchase)

In a nutshell, mindsets can be one of two main types: fixed mindsets and growth mindsets. People with the fixed mindset believe their personalities, social skills, capabilities, intelligence among other traits are born with them and thus cannot be changed or improved. As a result, they usually tend to give up quickly and almost instantly in the face of life’s obstacles and difficulties. People with the growth mindset, however, believe in growth and learning. They believe that any and all areas of their lives can be improved upon with hard work and learning. As a result, they tend to persevere in the face of all different kinds of challenges and problems.

Absolutely kickass, life changing book. Dispels many harmful misconceptions about talent, learning, success, leadership and relationships. Don’t have time for a detailed review now but may write one later.

  4. SATYAM PRAKASH (Verified Purchase)

I finished reading the book from start to finish and as with many self-help books, it may seem too full of anecdotes and not enough scientific background and strategies for the reader to use. However, I think that together, they help to cover all angles of what the author is conveying. However, I wish that she had analyzed each aspect more equally and gave more deductive reasoning and finished with specific strategies for the reader to use in each scenario.

  5. Saurabh Patel (Verified Purchase)

Her teachings are absolutely delightful, practical and life changing. You’ll have to unlearn everything that was taught and embrace the magic of this book. Everything that’s fixed cannot grow and everything that grows is never fixed.
