This book is designed primarily to give some ideas of the history of modern Manipur in the context of he relation with the British beginning from 1762. When Manipur entered into a formal relationship with the British by signing the treaty of 1762, Manipur gradually became a victim of the onslaughts of British imperialism mainly because of mutual disturbance and dissention among the ruling princes of the state.
The main focus of the book is on forces which informed colonial administration, movement, response and aspirations of the people till the process of decolonization was gradually unfolding in the Indian subcontinent.
