Description

Leningrad, Russia, 1968. Alexander Karpenko is no ordinary child, and from an early age, it is clear he is destined to lead his countrymen. But when his father is assassinated by the KGB for defying the state, he and his mother will have to escape from Russia if they hope to survive. At the docks, they are confronted with an irreversible choice: should they board a container ship bound for America, or Great Britain? Alexander leaves that choice to the toss of a coin . . . In a single moment, a double twist decides Alexander’s future. During an epic tale of fate and fortune, spanning two continents and thirty years, we follow his triumphs and defeats as he struggles as an immigrant to conquer his new world. As this unique story unfolds, Alexander comes to realize where his destiny lies, and accepts that he must face the past he left behind in Russia. With a final twist that will shock even his most ardent fans, this is international number one bestseller Jeffrey Archer’s most ambitious and creative work since Kane and Abel.

  1. Saurabh Patil (Verified Purchase)

Well written and enjoyed reading it. Unable keep it down once I started reading it. Enjoyed the way it has been written.

  2. Venkatesh N (Verified Purchase)

This was the first Jeffery archer book for me, in the beginning it was gripping, soon as i graduated through the book i was enjoying it until the very end. It could have been better or the author has deliberately kept it in such a way possibly for a sequel.

  3. Bunty Kumar (Verified Purchase)

Though not bad, it goes on predictable line. Two parallel scenarios throughout the novel brings novelty in reading… but not surprising enough. Interesting reading though not smooth enough.
I wish having different presentation for a scenario merging….

  4. Sudeshna (Verified Purchase)

Nice read, unputdownable, a bit fast read though and the end was bit predictable, just few thing that remains common in most of the stories are the presence of a banker, a strong connection to painting & arts, a bit of voyage, politics and a kind of rags to riches story.

  5. Aashish Aashri (Verified Purchase)

What a sad fall from grace for an author who was one of the best in his peak. Entire second half of the book put me to sleep. Nowhere near his to prime. Perhaps time for Jeffrey Archer to stop writing altogether. I rate it as his worst book ever.
