Description
Foma Gordyeff is the protagonist. He’s the twenty-something son of a wealthy Russian merchant and upon his father’s death he inherits his lucrative shipping business. This is a good thing, right? Wrong. Not to Foma anyway. Foma is best described as a chronic malcontent. Not a whiner, though. He sees social injustice (the merchant/business class is ripped mercilessly throughout the book) everywhere he looks, especially within himself.
