Description
Black Coffee by Agatha Christie is a stage play adapted into a novel by Charles Osborne, featuring the iconic detective Hercule Poirot. The story unfolds in the home of Sir Claud Amory, a scientist who has developed a powerful new formula. Fearing espionage, he summons Poirot to safeguard the formula, but before the detective arrives, Sir Claud is found dead and the formula missing.
Poirot, accompanied by Captain Hastings, investigates the household, which includes a mix of family members and guests, each with secrets and motives. The narrative follows classic Christie elements—suspicion, red herrings, and a final revelation that ties together the clues. Poirot’s methodical approach and psychological insight guide the unraveling of the mystery.
The novel retains the structure and dialogue of the original play, offering a fast-paced and theatrical reading experience. Black Coffee stands out as a unique entry in Christie’s body of work, blending scientific intrigue with traditional detective storytelling, and showcasing Poirot’s brilliance in a setting shaped by tension and deception.
