“Asterix and the Laurel Wreath” (French: “Les Lauriers de César”) is the eighteenth volume in the Asterix comic book series, created by writer René Goscinny and illustrator Albert Uderzo. The book was first published in 1971.
In this adventure, Julius Caesar is frustrated that no Roman can defeat the Gauls led by Asterix and his friend Obelix. So, Caesar hatches a plan to plant dissension among the Gauls by offering a golden laurel wreath to the chief of the tribe. The Romans hope that this will create a power struggle among the Gauls and weaken their resistance. To decide who will receive the laurel wreath, the Gauls decide to hold a competition to showcase their talents.
As with other Asterix stories, “Asterix and the Laurel Wreath” is known for its humor, clever wordplay, and satirical take on historical and cultural elements. The series often combines adventure with witty commentary on various aspects of history and human behavior. The dynamic duo of Asterix and Obelix, along with other colorful characters, make this comic book series a beloved and enduring classic.
